Can you buy books from the Chicago Public Library?

WHAT DOES CPL app do?
Using your Chicago Public Library card and a mobile device, you can read eBooks, audiobooks, and magazines, as well as watch movies, TV shows, and listen to music.
How many books can you put on hold Chicago Public Library?
We’ve increased the checkout limit from 30 to 50 titles, as well as the number of DVDs, CDs, and other audiovisual materials you can check out from six to ten. For more information, see the Your Account FAQs.
How do you borrow books from the public library?
Step 1 of 3: Go to your local library and borrow an eBook.
- Go to your public library’s website and look for the “eBooks” section.
- Select OverDrive as the service you’d like to use to browse books if necessary.
- Find a book you’re interested in and click Borrow.
Do Library cards expire?
The majority of Library Cards are valid for four years, and you can renew your account in one of several ways: library card number.
How many books can I check out?
You can check out as many materials/books as you want, with the exception of how many you can carry.
What is the difference between OverDrive and Libby?
Libby is a newer app that doesn’t yet have all of the features that the OverDrive app does, such as the ability to recommend titles for purchase or robust accessibility features. OverDrive is the “classic” app and is compatible with more devices, including the Kindle Fire and Windows mobile devices.
How do you pick up books from the library?
Use the last four digits of your library card to locate your book on the holds shelf, and check it out as usual. (You have seven days to pick up the item before it is returned to circulation.) You’re done! Spread the word about how simple it is, and enjoy your book!
Can you use Libby on a computer?
Libby is built by OverDrive, who also developed the classic OverDrive app, which lets you borrow the same free digital content from your library. If you have a Windows computer, Mac computer, or Chromebook, you can use Libby in your web browser at libbyapp.com.
How many times can I renew a book at Chicago Public Library?
Most materials are no longer subject to overdue fines, and we’ll automatically renew them for you up to 15 times if no one else has placed them on hold.
How do I get an eCard?
An eCard is available at www.powerlibrary.org/ecard for those who need immediate access or do not have a library card. Use the eCard registration form link to get to this form.
Can I borrow eBooks from any library?
You can borrow titles from any library if you have a library card for it, and your library may have a partnership with another library or consortium that allows you to borrow titles from the partner’s collection using your regular library card.
Can you borrow books from the British Library?
The British Library is responsible for the Public Lending Right (PLR), which was established by Act of Parliament in 1979 and gives authors the legal right to receive payment from the government each time their books are loaned through the public library system.
How long can you borrow an eBook from the library?
The lending period for an eBook or eAudiobook is 21 days, but you can reduce the checkout time to 7 or 14 days if you don’t need the full 21 days.
