Wendy Mass is a young adult novelist and children’s book author who won the Schneider Family Book Award for Middle School in 2003 for her novel A Mango-Shaped Space. Her novel Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life was adapted into a feature film in 2011.
Wendy Mass was born in New Jersey and her favorite subjects in school were reading and science; her first career ambition was to be an astronaut. During high school, she worked at a local bookstore and continued to hone her writing skills, taking writing classes and deciding to pursue writing as a career.
Mass continued to develop her writing skills as an English major at Tufts University, and she realized she wanted to inspire pre-teens, teens, and adults, so she moved back to her hometown of New Jersey and worked as a book editor in New York City and Connecticut while writing.

Sarah Mass has written 29 books for children and teens, winning the Schneider Family Book Award from the American Library Association (ALA) in 2004 for her children’s book A Mango-Shaped Space, as well as 11 state book awards for her young adult titles.
11 Birthdays is a children’s time loop novel written by Wendy Mass and published by Scholastic in 2009. It is the first book in the Willow Falls series, and it follows Amanda Ellerby, a young girl who has spent each of her ten birthdays with the same boy.
Amanda and Leo have been best friends since they were born, but on their tenth birthday, Amanda overhears Leo saying horrible things about her and refuses to speak to him, waking up the next day in the same place she was the day before.
The book’s friendships will ring true to its audience, and Amanda’s voice is likable and humorous. It has won numerous awards, including the William Allen White Award for grades 3u20135 in 2012.
The Willow Falls books by Angelina D’Angelo all revolve around birthdays and are set in the small town of Willow Falls, with the mysterious Angelina as a central character. The five novels feature different protagonists who become friends and share the same town.
