5 YouTubers Who Wrote Books (and My Reviews of Them)
I’m a big fan of YouTube videos, so finding out that some of them had written books piqued my interest. These people are entertainers at heart, so they know what they’re doing. Here are my individual reviews of each of their books.
“This Book Loves You” by Pewdiepie
Pewdiepie, a YouTube star, has written a picture book called “This Book Loves You,” in which the pictures are either inside jokes or mocking motivational pictures on the internet. I thought it was funny, and I think anyone who enjoys PewdiePie will enjoy it. It’s more of a collection of inspirational thoughts and sayings.
“Selp-Helf” by Miranda Sings
If you enjoy Miranda Sings’ YouTube channel, you’ll love her book, which is packed with ridiculous advice on how to live a better life. Miranda-isms abound in these self-proclaimed lifesaving pages. Get the eBook or print version if you can.
“I Hate Myselfie” by Shane Dawson
Shane Dawson’s book was written by him and has his voice and sense of humor. He shares important moments in his life while remaining entertaining. Although he stated in the book that he never intended to be controversial, he most certainly is. It may appear intimidating at first because it is a chapter book, but it is divided into quick, easy-to-read sections that are easilly read.
“It Gets Worse” by Shane Dawson
Shane Dawson is one of the best storytellers I’ve ever seen, and he’s not afraid to share any vulnerable or embarrassing moment in his life. One of the book’s highlights is when he discusses his battle with bulimia. This book was just as amazing as his first.
“My Japanese Husband Thinks I’m Crazy (Texan & Tokyo Book 1)” by Grace Buchele Mineta
“My Japanese Husband Thinks I’m Crazy: The Comic Book” is the autobiographical misadventures of a Texan freelancer and her Japanese “salaryman” husband, Ryosuke. A lot of her comics are about Ryosuke and how silly he is, while the rest of the stories are about the awkward situations she gets into as an American in Japan.
“My Japanese Husband (Still) Thinks I’m Crazy (Texan & Tokyo Book 2)” by Grace Buchele Mineta
If you liked the first book, you’ll love this one because it combines entertainment with education about a different culture. Unfortunately, Amazon has an annoying habit of resizing pictures in self-published books inappropriately, so I couldn’t read or see the comic strips in this or the other one.
“Confessions of a Texan in Tokyo (Texan & Tokyo Book 3)” by Grace Buchele Mineta
“This book is just as good as the other two,” Grace said, “so if you like the first two, you’ll love this one, too.” Grace talked more about being a writer in this book, and Ryosuke drew a few of the comics, which was a nice touch.
“The History of My Insanity” by Trisha Paytas
Trisha Paytas, a YouTube sensation and reality TV star, explores her own history of increasingly insane situations in The History of My Insanity, a documentary that takes an in-depth look at the real world of stripping, escorting, and what the sex and entertainment industries can do to a person’s mental and emotional well-being.
