What Is Percy Jackson Books About?

Creation and conception

Rick Riordan’s son Haley was diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia in 2002, and when he was in second grade, he requested that his father tell him bedtime stories that combined existing mythological characters with new ones, prompting Riordan to create the fictional character Percy Jackson.

Character

He is 12 years old in the first novel, The Lightning Thief, and has the ability to control water, breathe underwater, and communicate with animals and fish. He has ADHD and dyslexia, and his birthday is August 18.

Family

Percy Jackson is the son of Sally Jackson and Gabe Ugliano, and through his father Poseidon, he is related to virtually every character and creature from Greek mythology. Percy has a cyclops brother named Tyson, who is one of the few beings he acknowledges as family.

Friends

Thalia Grace, daughter of Zeus and leader of the Hunters of Artemis, is one of his closest friends, and he has a complicated relationship with Clarisse La Rue, his Camp Half-Blood’s resident bully.

Romantic relationships

Other characters, such as Calypso, Nico di Angelo, and Reyna Ramu00edrez-Arellano, are romantically interested in him, and in The Titan’s Curse, his relationship with Aphrodite first hints at being romantic.

Magical animal companions

Percy has several animal companions. Blackjack, a black pegasus, is his personal steed and companion. Mrs. O’Leary is a hellhound that Percy receives from Daedalus, and she appears to mortals as a poodle due to the Mist. Percy has also traveled with Small Bob, a small calico kitten named by Bob the Titan, who can transform into a full-sized saber-toothed t

Description

Percy is described as attractive, with messy jet black hair, a “Mediterranean” complexion, and sea-green eyes like his father Poseidon; his mother thinks he looks like his father, and his friend Hazel thinks he looks like a Roman god.

Abilities

Percy, like most demigods, suffers from ADHD and dyslexia, and he has developed a Greek fighting style (which the New Romans describe as unpredictable). Percy is more powerful than most of the gods’ other children, and all of his abilities correspond to his father’s myths and abilities.

Weapons

Percy has used magic javelins made by his brother Tyson, magically camouflaging armor made by Charles Beckendorf, and Carter Kane’s wand. His main weapon is Anaklusmos (“Riptide”), a sword made of celestial bronze given to him by Chiron the centaur.
