Comic Book Grading
For most comics priced up to about $10.00, we use the ten-point grading scale:. Very Fine FN Fine VG. Very Good GD. Fair PR Poor. Some comics are graded by CGC, CBCS, or PGX. These grading services assign grades on the same ten-point grading scale used by MyComicShop. If you receive a comic that you believe is not properly graded, please contact us.
Please keep in mind that while a single defect may not lower a comic’s grade, repeated and/or combined defects may lower the grade by one or more grades. Keep this in mind as you review the possible defects a comic may have as shown below for the various grades.
Near Mint (NM) condition
The highest grade we will assign to a comic is 9.8. A near perfect copy of a comic looks brand new with only a few very minor defects. Acceptable minor defects on a NM copy include: a very small amount of spine stresses, very minor instances of denting, and minor (less than 1/8) bends without color breaks.
Very Fine (VF) condition
Acceptable defects on a VF copy include minor corner wear, a light accumulation of spine stress that may include color-break, and bends or folds of less than 1/4 inch.
Fine (FN) condition
Slight spine roll, a moderate accumulation of spine stresses that may break color, and a spine split of less than 1/2 are acceptable defects on a FN copy.
Very Good (VG) condition
Spine roll, 1/2″ to 1″ spine splits or other tears, oxidation discoloration, and a moderate accumulation of water damage or staining are acceptable defects on a VG copy.
Good (GD) condition
A vertical book-length crease, 1.5″-2″ spine split, cover or centerfold completely detached, major tears, heavy amounts of staining, residue, and water damage are acceptable defects on a GD copy.
Fair (FR) condition
A comic book in FR condition may have non-story elements such as coupons, ad pages, or Marvel Value Stamps cut or torn out of the book, but the story and art will be complete.
Poor (PR) condition
In poor condition, Marvel and DC comics may be missing up to four pages (two spreads) of story or ad pages, have a completely split spine, or have severe damage that makes the book unreadable.
A Quick Note On Digital Codes
We cannot guarantee that the comics we sell will contain valid, unused, and unexpired digital codes, and we will not be held liable if a publisher refuses to allow you to redeem such a code. Attempts to redeem this content will not affect the grade we would give the book.
