Guided Reading Level N Book List
Making the transition from picture books to chapter books can be intimidating for beginning readers, so use this list of Level N fiction and nonfiction to start building your Guided Reading library. These books are appropriate for students in grades 2-4, and we hope you will use them to inspire and challenge your students.

What are level n books?
LEVEL N BOOKS have complex sentences and vocabulary; fiction narratives are simple but have more elaborate plots and multiple characters who develop over time; nonfiction has a variety of text features and vocabulary that may be unfamiliar; and nonfiction has a variety of text features and vocabulary that may be unfamiliar.
What grade level are books?
3rd through 7th grades.
What does level n mean in reading?
Level N readers can read a variety of books, including short fiction stories, myths, chapter books, and shorter informational texts, as well as longer texts.
What is level R in reading?
At a level R, your child reads independently, or on his or her own. Readers at this level can read a wide range of texts, including biographies, mysteries, series books, books with sequels, short stories, diaries, and logs, though longer descriptive words may be challenging.
What is level L in reading?
Readers at level L can read chapter books with more difficult plots (events in the story) and fewer illustrations, and they can read silently or aloud in a smooth and fluent manner (as if they were talking).
What is level P in reading?
At a level P, your child can read independently, or on his or her own, a wide range of texts, including biographies, mysteries, series books, and short stories, as well as chapter books and shorter informational (nonfiction) texts.

What is a first grade reading level?
A first-grader’s reading level should be between 3 and 12, with higher reading levels indicating that they’re near the top of their class; however, there’s always room for improvement, and your child may fall below or rise above the range in some cases.
What does level M mean in reading?
Level M readers can read and understand difficult sentences, and reading tricky words is smooth and automatic in both silent and oral (out loud) reading. They also know the characteristics of a variety of genres (different types of text) such as fantasy, realistic fiction, informational texts, and biography.
What are level 2 reading books?
Level 2 books, such as Frog and Toad Are Friends and Amelia Bedelia, are for readers who are gaining confidence but still need some assistance; they have more complex story lines, longer sentences, and more challenging words.
What grade level are Goosebump books?
It was easy for me to devour the books as a child and as an adult because they are written at a 3rd to 7th grade level, the chapters are a few pages each, and most, if not all, of the chapters end with a cliffhanger.
